Overview
Quinoline antioxidants, primarily represented by TMQ (Polymerized 2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,2-Dihydroquinoline) and RD, are high-performance heat-ageing inhibitors widely used in rubber and polymer industries. They offer excellent thermal stability and are particularly effective in applications requiring long-term resistance to heat and oxygen.
These antioxidants are non-staining (slight discoloration possible) and provide superior protection against thermo-oxidative degradation in natural rubber (NR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), nitrile rubber (NBR), and butyl rubber (IIR).
Product Categories
| Product | CAS No. | Type | Key Feature |

| TMQ (High Activity Grade) | 26780-96-1 | High molecular weight | Lower volatility, better long-term stability |
| RD (Antioxidant RD) | 26780-96-1 | Quinoline oligomer | Cost-effective, widely used in tires |
Selection Guide by Application
For Tires & Automotive Rubber
| Application | Recommended Product | Key Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Tire sidewalls | TMQ (High Activity) | Prevents ozone cracking, heat aging |
| Tire treads | TMQ + 6PPD (combination) | Synergistic protection |
| Automotive seals & hoses | TMQ (Standard) | Heat resistance up to 120°C |
For Industrial Rubber Products
| Application | Recommended Product | Key Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Conveyor belts | TMQ (High Activity) | Long-term heat stability |
| Rubber hoses | TMQ (Standard) | Cost-effective solution |
| Gaskets & seals | TMQ + Diphenylamine | Enhanced thermal protection |
For Wire & Cable
| Application | Recommended Product | Key Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Insulation compounds | TMQ (Non-staining) | Low discoloration, good electrical properties |
| Sheathing compounds | TMQ (Standard) | Heat and oxidation protection |
Key Selection Factors
| Factor | Consideration |
|---|---|
| Service temperature | TMQ is effective up to 120-150°C; for higher temps, consider combined systems |
| Color requirements | TMQ may cause slight discoloration; not recommended for light-colored or transparent products |
| Regulatory compliance | Check REACH, RoHS, and food contact regulations for your region |
| Synergistic combinations | TMQ + PPD (e.g., 6PPD) for ozone + heat protection; TMQ + phenolic for wire & cable |
