Perfluorohexane (C6F14), also known as n-perfluorohexane or tetradecafluorohexane, is a fully fluorinated perfluorocarbon liquid with a boiling point of approximately 56°C. Its combination of chemical inertness, low viscosity, low surface tension and electrical insulating characteristics makes it useful in specialized electronics, heat-transfer, fluoropolymer-processing and research applications.
J&K Scientific supplies Perfluorohexane at ≥98.5% purity by GC, with lot-traceable documentation, evaluation samples and commercial-scale supply available.

Applications
-
Electronics reliability testing – gross leak testing of hermetic packages, liquid-to-liquid thermal shock and dielectric test baths.
-
Low-temperature heat transfer – single- and two-phase cooling in test equipment, lasers and instruments; C6F14 is used for liquid cooling in particle detectors at the LHC.
-
Amorphous fluoropolymer coatings – perfluorinated solvents of this class are used to dissolve amorphous fluoropolymers for spin, dip and spray coating. See also J&K PF160 and PF235 resins.
-
Phase-change nanodroplets – a 56 °C boiling point, above body temperature, lets perfluorohexane nanodroplets be acoustically vaporized and recondense repeatedly for contrast-enhanced ultrasound research.
-
Fluorous chemistry and inert media – fluorous-phase separations, inert reaction and dispersion media, and gas-carrying liquid studies.

Evaluating Perfluorohexane as an Alternative to Fluorinert™ FC-72
Customers previously using Fluorinert™ FC-72 may evaluate high-purity perfluorohexane for selected applications where similar thermophysical behavior is required. Perfluorohexane and FC-72 are not identical products. FC-72 was supplied as a perfluorinated mixture, whereas J&K Perfluorohexane is a defined C6F14 substance at ≥98.5% purity.
Users should perform application-specific qualification before switching fluids.
Fluorinert™ is a trademark of 3M Company. J&K Scientific is not affiliated with 3M.
Environmental & Regulatory Note
Perfluorohexane is a perfluorocarbon with a high global-warming potential and falls within broad PFAS definitions. Users should minimize emissions through closed handling, recovery and recycling where feasible.
Regulatory requirements vary by region and application. In the United States, certain PFC solvent-cleaning applications are subject to EPA SNAP narrowed-use limitations. Customers should evaluate applicable regulations before use.
Storage and Handling
Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. The liquid evaporates quickly at room temperature, so minimize open transfers. See the SDS for full handling information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as 3M Fluorinert™ FC-72?
No. FC-72 was a perfluorinated mixture based on C6F14. This product is a single substance, perfluorohexane, at ≥98.5% purity. Key physical properties are closely matched, but please qualify it in your own application.
What purity and isomer content can I expect?
Purity is ≥98.5% by GC. n-Isomer content and impurity profile are reported on each lot's COA.
Is perfluorohexane a PFAS, and what is its GWP?
Yes, it is a PFAS under the OECD definition. Its 100-year GWP is about 9,300, so emissions should be minimized through closed systems and recovery.
Can I get a sample or bulk pricing?
Yes. Industrial users can request evaluation sample. For 5 kg and above, or annual supply agreements, request a quote.
Can it dissolve amorphous fluoropolymers?
Perfluorinated solvents of this class are used for amorphous fluoropolymer coatings. Solubility depends on the polymer grade; contact us for data with J&K PF160 and PF235.
