WST-8 reagent is widely used in CCK-8–type assays for evaluating cell viability and proliferation. In viable cells, WST-8 is enzymatically reduced, with the aid of an electron mediator, to generate a highly water-soluble orange formazan product.
The resulting color intensity correlates with viable cell number and cellular metabolic activity, providing a sensitive, convenient and homogeneous colorimetric method for applications including:
