Bright, Photostable Fluorophores for Advanced Bioimaging
YueLu dyes (YLs) are a family of asymmetric rhodamine fluorophores developed by the research team of Prof. Xiao-Bing Zhang and Prof. Lin Yuan at Hunan University.
Designed for advanced fluorescence imaging, YueLu dyes combine high brightness, enhanced photostability, and enlarged Stokes shifts through rational molecular engineering. The YL578 series includes core fluorophores, reactive derivatives, and HaloTag-compatible probes for applications ranging from fluorescent probe development to live-cell and STED super-resolution imaging.
The YL578 design was first reported in Nature Communications and was later highlighted in a 2026 review of single-molecule fluorescence chemistry as an example of fluorophore engineering using electronic and fluorinated structural modulation. The review specifically notes the increase in quantum yield associated with YL578 design.
Why YueLu Dyes?
High Brightness
YL578 provides strong fluorescence output, supporting imaging applications where signal intensity is critical.
Enhanced Photostability
YL578 was designed to reduce photobleaching and support repeated image acquisition under demanding illumination conditions.
This is particularly relevant to STED microscopy, where fluorophores are exposed to intense depletion light. A recent review notes that STED places particularly high photostability demands on fluorescent dyes.
Long Stokes Shift
With excitation and emission maxima of approximately 578 nm and 634 nm, YL578 provides a reported 56 nm Stokes shift.
This can help reduce excitation/emission spectral overlap and provide greater flexibility when designing imaging systems and multicolor experiments.
Applications
YueLu dyes can support research in:
- Super-Resolution Microscopy
- Protein Labeling
- Live-Cell Imaging
- Organelle Imaging
- Fluorescent Probe Development
- Multicolor Imaging
